About
Casavant Law
I am a lawyer, investigator, mediator, and conflict resolution practitioner with over 20 years of
experience working at the intersections of law, equity, human rights, and governance.
My work is grounded in relationship, care, and accountability, supporting people and institutions
to navigate conflict in ways that are fair, ethical, and human.
I work with not‑for‑profit organizations, professional regulators, businesses, Indigenous communities
and organizations, and health care and education systems across British Columbia and nationally.
My practice focuses on relational, trauma‑informed workplace investigations, conflict resolution,
circle and dialogue processes, and repair‑oriented work where trust has been strained or harmed.
How I Work
Conflict is never just about policy or process, it's about people. My approach is to ensure safety and
trust, being culturally aware, and relational, recognizing the impact of power, history, and context on
those involved. I work carefully and thoughtfully, creating environments where people feel safe to
speak honestly and where decisions are made with integrity.
In investigations, this means fair, neutral, and defensible processes that meet legal and regulatory
requirements while remaining attentive to the human experience of those involved.
In mediation and dispute resolution, it means slowing things down, listening deeply,
and helping parties find clarity, responsibility, and where possible, repair.
My work often includes:
-
Regulatory, governance, complaint investigations
-
Equity, human rights, and values‑based conflict matters
-
Mediation and facilitated dialogue
-
Restorative and repair‑informed processes
-
Circle processes rooted in respect, accountability, and relationship
-
Wills and Estate planning
Circle and Repair‑Oriented Processes
In appropriate contexts, I incorporate circle and dialogue processes to support understanding, responsibility‑taking, and healing. Circles are not about avoiding difficult truths, they are about creating structured, supported space for them to be spoken and heard. This work is especially meaningful in Indigenous, community, and organizational settings where relationship and belonging matter deeply.
Experience and Perspective
Before launching Casavant Law, I spent 20 years working in Aboriginal law, human rights, and governance, including in public service and regulatory contexts. That experience continues to inform my work today, particularly in understanding systems, institutional responsibility, and the importance of good process in maintaining public trust.
I am a Cree‑Métis, my values shape how I practice: humility, responsibility to others, and care for the dignity of each person involved. I believe justice is not only about outcomes, but about how we get there.
The Work Moving Forward
Whether I am conducting an investigation, supporting an organization through conflict, or facilitating a restorative process, my goal is the same: to help people move through difficulty with clarity, fairness, and respect, and to support outcomes that are durable, ethical, and aligned with core values.
